Casting Petals…..

This Winter has become more of a time of reflection than productivity – at least from a painting sense. I have found myself more inclined to write and this is not altogether in line with a blog about art! Perhaps a more general theme for the Artscapes blog would be creativity…..

Rain

I have also slowed down my posting somewhat. The things that go in can sometimes take a while to come out. Yesterday, I had a chat with an incredible artist friend of mine and while talking about her plans for the summer, she said to me that she is rarely as productive in Winter and that she much prefers the summer to make her work, in spite of her busy schedule. It is easy to understand this when you see that the theme of her reversed glass paintings are forests and faeries. I think they sleep in Winter with only a few silver dusted souls daring to venture out in such cold climes. No wonder she can’t find them easily! To see my friend Bonnie’s art – Click here

Digging further into the diaries of the past I came across some things I wrote that reminded me of the painting above (now sitting in my sister’s apartment). I thought I’d share it before disappearing into the mists of early Spring until after Easter….

Listening to the sounds of waves

I see myself holding petals of white and gold

And running toward the sea

As I reach the shore

Time slows down

I throw the petals to the Wind

They fall gracefully through the air

And hit the water shiny like quicksilver

From silk to paper….

And I wonder about their journey.

  1. Perhaps this is a muse stage for you. When you come out of the other side you will be full of energy to paint.
    Love,
    Linda

  2. Lovely painting!! I want to go there. By acupuncture, winter is a time of reflection, clarification, rest and rejuvenation. Sounds like you are in balance!

    Lovely poem.

Linda – I am beginning to think it is…. :)

Diane – Thank you! :) To be in balance is exactly what I hope for. I have come to accept the fallow period near its end?

  4. Beautiful painting and beautiful poem. Sometimes we just have to step back and reflect on life, painting etc. this is your time for that.

You really have the cloud thing down don’t you? :)

You are on the right track, Michelle, being patient and waiting for “The Way” to lead you out of this valley. Growth is accompanied by trial and tribulation. The greater the growth the greater the trials and tribulations.

Hi Martin – Patience is not on my list of virtues – so a trial it is! :)

  8. The painting & poem both make me miss Jones Beach (on Long Island.) I’m hoping to spend much of this long weekend painting, myself.
    Happy Spring, btw! :)

    Lana – Happy painting! :)

  10. Beautiful poem, and yet another beautiful painting! I really love how you play around with the blues, and again, your paintings of the skies are impressive!

    Great job!
