Echoes – Work in Progress, © Michelle Basic Hendry

The postcard/invitations for the show are to be printed next week and I am still painting the canvas that is going to represent it! I figured it would be a good one to show as a work in progress… The sky is complete and the house and foreground are blocked in. I won’t make any final decisions on the vegetation until I see the house completed.

It may be obvious to some that this is the same house/location as “Wheat Field”. I had such fun with the subject and I am so enamored with the house that I had to try it again with the balance of the sky and field reversed and more of the house itself. Hmmm… I rarely paint the same location twice…

The show title will be “Echoes“. We are entering the home stretch! I will post the final image of the painting over the weekend and the postcard/invitation next week….

Happy Solstice, everyone! Today, as of 8pm EDT, is the first day of SUMMER 2008!

  1. Happy summer to you too!

  2. I like it Michelle,
It has an Edward Hopper feel to it.
    Love,

    Thanks, Kinsey! :)

Linda – Thank you, that is quite a compliment! I know which one you mean you mean – Lighthouse Hill! Someday I might aspire to be that clean with my brushstrokes!

  4. channeling Wyeth ?

Ha! I was thinking about Wyeth! I love Andrew Wyeth…. His compositions are incredible. We share a liking for the ‘from down the hill’ point of view’.

  6. Hi Michelle,
Beautifully that house on the hill, but where is that cow in the meadow? Haha
    Greetings, KT

LOL! The cows are on another canvas… ;)

  8. wow Michelle !!!
this is stunningly beautiful…the house is
a solitary motif against the vastness of that breathtaking landscape….
I can see why you admire Wyeth…
your work has the same sort of real that is almost ‘unreal’ symbolism….
    wonderful choice for the invitation..
looking forward to hearing all about your exhibition :)

Kim – thank you! The solitary house gets to share the landscape with some bushes in the final version – but your comment has inspired me to take a risk with the next one. I will keep you posted! :)

  10. Not sure how…but I missed your last few posts…I like this, very stark and solitary…but I have an unfair advantage as I started with the next post so I know what I’m comparing it too…never mind I’m a fan regardless!

    Cheers

  11. Thanks for posting a work-in-progress. Your artwork is always beautiful and I love to see how it develops into the final piece.
