Rob Roy, 8×10, acrylic on canvas © Michelle Basic Hendry
On one of my Autumn road trips, I drove past a little hamlet called Rob Roy. I have yet to learn much about its history, unfortunately, as it is quite a drive from my stomping grounds of Muskoka.
It was near sunset when I found the long abandoned house I had seen so many images of. There were cattle grazing west of the house and they were quite unnerved by me and my Jeep as I stopped to take some pictures. Only the calves were interested in checking me out. The light on this beautiful ruin was breathtaking.

Kinsey – this one has light and clouds like your neck of the woods, I should think! Glad you like it!
Thanks Jean… I moved the fence for the painting – the real was was a little healthier to keep in the cows!

/ December 6, 2008Hi Michelle,
I took a look at your paintings and they are trully inspiring.
They make me want to paint.
The depiction of light is treated in a poetic way and one can imagine a story within.
Michelle
/ December 6, 2008Thank you, José. I like to think that light is poetic. It is quite a compliment to be told I sometimes achieve it!
