New Painting – St. Stephen’s

St. Stephens

Stained Glass Window from the Chancel of St. Stephen's Church in Muskoka, 12x16, acrylic © 2011 Michelle Basic Hendry

After a couple of false starts, I finally have a painting I can be proud to donate for the church. This painting is of one of the stained glass windows in the St. Stephen’s chancel. St. Stephen’s is a tiny 900 square foot, wood frame Anglican church in Vankoughnet, Muskoka celebrating its 120th birthday this summer.

I did paint the walls darker than the original blue, but I wanted to maximize the light of the glass window as much as possible. See a larger version here.

The painting will be available on July 30th, 2011 for auction to help raise funds to preserve this unique church in the village of Vankoughnet. If you are interested in being a part of the celebration or bidding on the painting, please contact Jennifer Milne.

On Wednesday June 1st, there is an invitation only opening of an exhibition of paintings at the old Jeremy’s Jeweler in Kleinburg, ON. This Heritage designated building is at 10483 Islington Avenue. The show will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday June 4-5 ’til 4pm. I will have one of my paintings available there. If you’re in the area drop in! Kleinburg is a beautiful little community on the north side of Toronto and worth a visit. It is also home to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
