A painting from the Heel House in Gravenhurst. The house is currently under renovation. This was the last room that, at the time, was still untouched. The house was owned by the original family until 2008.
Isabel Heel had a deep connection to the Gravenhurst Sanitorium – the first TB Sanitorium in Canada. She took in boarders rejected by the Sanitorium as too ill and likely to die.
From the book:
A single room, yet untouched by the cycle of renewal, still whispered of a moment of a woman’s retreat. A pink curtain filters the light. She sits in the clawfoot tub which recedes in the shadows, enjoying a warm bath on an early winter afternoon. I may have never met her, but, I will remember the room that she so clearly considered her own.
The full story and many more will be in my upcoming book.
