This is a place that I have had on my list to paint for a while. It is from my trip to Algonquin Park during the peak of Autumn in 2007. I discovered that Google Maps has very clear satellite imaging of the park and I was able to locate the exact site of the painting.
I remember that day. It was so still and quiet. Everything was so colourful that it was almost surreal. Had the sun been in full strength (there was a haze of clouds), it would have been unbelievable. This is the view toward the lake from the old airfield. I shot over 30 photographs that afternoon in just this one area. Some have already been painted….
Departing summer hath assumed
An aspect tenderly illumed,
The gentlest look of spring;
That calls from yonder leafy shade
Unfaded, yet prepared to fade,
A timely caroling.
