Mid-October Snow ยฉ 2008 Michelle Basic Hendry
Yesterday, from my window, I watched as the wind blew leaves from the trees – This morning I watch a gentle snow fall on them. The first snowfall of the coming winter in Muskoka.

There were three people I thought of when I saw this:
- Lana – This is why you are in Louisiana enjoying the wildlife!
- Linda – I hear you started with your Winter palette – This must be your fault!! (Just kidding… )
- Mom – Are you still coming up before May 2009???

Fortunately, the roads are too warm and the snow melts there immediately. I am sure this first reminder of the coming winter will disappear without a trace and trouble us no more for the rest of the month. After 18 feet of snow last year, winter-weary Muskokans are not ready yet!
How beautiful! Soon this beauty will be accompanied by the brutality of winter. Isn’t this a metaphor for life, that those things which are often beautiful at first glance have a second nature that can bring great pain?
The dual nature of the Universe… ๐
18 Feet of snow last year? I cannot even fathom that, Michelle! We are in the mid 80’s F here today in Texas!
Beautiful shots!
You are ahead of us…. no frost yet this fall! (which is late!) Your photos are beautiful!
Jean – Sure – rub it in! ๐
Thanks, Helen!
Eeeeks! You’re scaring me!;) The snow is beautiful but I am praying I can effect my escape before it comes again to Montana!
Dust of Snow
by Robert Frost
The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree
Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.
That painting is amazing. I can’t even fathom how to do so much detail!
However, the whole post makes me want to run out onto my deck & have a margarita in a t-shirt & shorts. *LOL*
Kinsey – Imagine how I felt! ๐
eddie – Thank you for that – it is truly beautiful…
Lana – All of those are photographs – I am not sure I could paint with that much detail! The margarita idea is a good one!
I see you were caught up in the magic of the first snowfall too. So lovely…
Of course! ๐
I’m cold . . . wishing I was a few thousand kilometers south of Barrie right about now.
And for the next 5 or 6 months… ๐
