Heal House Bathroom Sink © Michelle Basic Hendry
I had the pleasure of touring an old house here in town that has been empty for 18 years. I got the tour from the new owners. This one is going to be sensitively restored by a local couple and lived in once again. The house was built in the 1920’s by a couple named Morley and Bessie Heal.
The image above is of the bathroom as it was found. The fixtures including this sink and the claw foot tub will be cleaned and restored and returned to this very room. I plan to do a very small series of paintings based on the original condition of the house as one of my Winter projects – two interior and one exterior. I am very excited!
I have been graciously invited to tour the house again when it is complete. I can’t say how excited I am to be able to report that one is being saved….
I’ve always wanted to get into that house…now I’ll get to see it!!!
What an opportunity for you Michelle. I would have surely enjoyed that tour.
Love,
Linda
Anita – I have more pictures, but, they have already done so much work. It was a very dirty job! It is a big and beautiful house…. I can’t wait to see what they do!
Linda, I enjoyed it very much in spite of the damp cold and mini snowstorm.. LOL! I think you would have enjoyed too…
I love to see old properties being tastefully renovated. To me it is a more ecological thing to do than use up the countryside with new builds. (Although you in the USA have a lot more country than we do in UK!) New builds are a scourge over here.
It is wonderful – and even more rare here in Canada. The Americans are a little better at saving historic properties than we are.
What a great project. Yours and theirs!
Having grown up in a house that was over 100 years old, I can understand your excitement. I love that the original owners were named ‘Heal’, and that is precisely what the new owners are doing to that house. How wonderful an opportunity for you, I am looking forward to seeing what you do.
Kris – I never thought of it that way. Lovely thought!
What a wonderful opportunity! How cool that they’re working to save the building. Very neat! Looking forward to whatever paintings this inspires. 🙂
What a great opportunity for you Michelle…I love anything “old” from tables to sinks to houses. I can’t wait to see your paintings!
Cheers
I love the wallpaper! Really love the wallpaper. Now waiting eagerly to see what you choose to highlight in your paintings.
Lana – I have a plan, but it will be well into the new year before they are all done!
Thanks, Heather!
KaslKaos – Me too on the wallpaper – I think it needs to be in there but I have to be careful not to compete with the focal point! So we’ll see…
