The Ice Hut ยฉ 2005 Michelle Basic Hendry
I grabbed this one out of the archives as it is great picture of one of the more popular activities up here in Winter. It was a warm February day, and there was a peacefulness to sitting on the lake during a thaw much like the one we have been experiencing. Spring is around the corner and yet silence still dominates. I am always amazed at how quick it seems to be between the times we can walk on the lake to the times we can swim in it. It is one of those miracles we take for granted.
Today is my brother’s wedding. We will be welcoming his bride Jacqui and her family into ours! I had the pleasure of finally meeting everyone last night and it was a wonderful time. Jacqui has a great family and we are lucky to be getting her…
Jacqui’s Mom said something last night that stuck with me. She said how important it is to the success of a marriage that you never take one another for granted. That is so true. I think we would all be a little happier if we took nothing for granted. Life would be like that first blush of Love every single day. To have someone special to share it makes Life itself seem even more the miracle that it is.
Appropriately, it is a Valentine’s wedding and despite a little thaw, Muskoka is in her snow covered glory. Here’s is wishing them Peace and Happiness… and that they never take each other for granted.
And to everyone – Happy Valentine’s Day!
I love this Ice Hut photo.
Love,
Linda

That is such a truth – you opened my eyes to it…(also the photograph) the little ice-puddle at the front has just the lighting and thaw-quality to make me feel I am there.

It is also one of the most romantic shots of a Portaloo I have ever seen ๐
Congrats to your bro! Jacqui’s mom is spot on. Good advice for the holiday. ๐
That snow looks like an incredible colour… ๐ Hope the wedding goes well and Happy Valentines to you…Oh and hope the smell is all gone ๐
Walking, sitting on an iced lake. Looks amazing for me. Today the temp here should be a little over 10 celcius and we find it very cold ๐
Thanks, Linda!
Jean! You are so cruel… ๐
Henry! It a fishing hut! LOL! You must try ice fishing someday…
Lana – My brother won the in-law lottery! Jacqui’s family is awesome!!
Chrissy – Almost gone… I am told the remains will linger a while – but so far nobody else smells it but me! ๐
Patrick – I know you would have a great time photographing winter. I am sure you would see things my winter jaded eyes now take for granted…
Lovely picture! I was skating on the Magnetawan on Val’s day, but the scene was not dissimilar. I love those winter skys.
Thanks, Ingrid!
Michelle, you are a remarkable young woman. You have a spirit that is so in touch with life, love and laughter. You give soul to our world with your art. Jackie needs family to look out for her when we live so far away. I know she loves you and your family very much. You are all a gift to her.
My gift is all that I learn from the incredible people I meet when I travel. Carmen told me about your art on Monday night out with my family. I am so sad I did not know about it when we were at North.
Michelle, please keep in tough. Jeff is very special guy too.
Your new extended family – Colleen
