“Afternoon Light at Lavender, 18×24, acrylic © Michelle Basic Hendry
The changes in the weather and the season play havoc with my sinuses. It has been a tough week of migraines and other discomforts which slowed the painting process significantly – but – it is done!
Lavender is a little hamlet of mostly farms just outside Creemore, Ontario. I met artist Peter Adams last year and he helped me find this little derelict house. It was late in the afternoon – around 5:30 pm – and I had been shooting for half an hour. I was walking back to the car and turned around to stunning light coming from behind the house. When I looked at my reference photographs later, only the one I used for this painting made the cut. I have asked around to see if anyone knows about its history, but so far, nothing yet…
Next week, the Livingstone house – history and a window seat…
Lovely!
I am about to disappear into Yellowstone this morning.
Beautiful Michelle.
Love,
Linda
Another painting! Yeah! The back-light is brilliant, sets the mood, the soft colours are harmonious and so perfectly match the town name.
the lighting here is so affective. really makes the house stand out
You’re so great at capturing light! Hope you’re feeling better.
Your use of light reminds me of your days when stained glass was your passion.
Hope you are feeling better.
a beautiful painting Michelle..
I love how you have captured the sunlight…. in fact I really thought this was a photograph!!!
what a divine name for a town …
I think I could quite easily move there 😉
hope you are feeling better… it’s awful when you are sick and trying to paint 🙁

I love the use of light in this piece! Very atmospheric.
This is a wonderful piece…
I can almost feel the gentle breeze move the tall grasses…
