Still in Progress… © 2010 Michelle Basic Hendry
There is nothing worse than discovering errors in drawing when working on a painting. It means that progress is slow in order to ensure corrections are made and the painting is finished as it should be. Sessions are going by with very little visible change. I have struggled with this one and yet I cannot seem to give up. In most any other circumstances a painting that has had so many stops and starts is left to the side and abandoned because the results will never be worth the effort. But, this one is different… There is a deep passion behind it that has been drawing on every resource I have lately.
As a work in progress, it is like me – it is like the real house! As we evolve, change appears slowly and is only noticed when there is a major shift in perception. So, I take another risk and post “Crystal’s Room” still in progress – a month after my initial WIP post. I have let days go by between sessions, as if I am not ready to finish it. I can’t see it yet. Perhaps I am not meant to see it until it is ready. Until my perception makes that shift…
Very evocative Michelle.
Wow! I love what you’ve done, the light, the colours. Sometimes you just have to wait for the right time to finish. Painting isn’t like making widgets. Maybe have some small or less serious projects to fill in between? (like the 365 artcards??? hint, hint, hint), or filling a mini sketchbook etc.
Your heart will lead you.
Hi Michelle, it would be sad to give up on this one. As Ingrid says, the light is gorgeous and it is very atmospheric. “Spring has arrived” 😀
I would ask what bit you are unhappy with but sometimes it is not easy to explain.
I hear you, which is why I stopped drawing out my ideas before painting. I might do some scribbles on a piece of paper, but when I paint, it’s just the canvas & the paint. Hang in there, hon! I’m sure it’ll work out fine (even if it feels like progress is slow…It’s still progress!)
When the time is right you’ll land right where your ‘sposed to be..
nice developement so far…
good luck..

Dear Michelle,
I am loving watching this painting evolve. The jump from the earlier version to this is dramatic. The light is this is palpable and thrills my senses. It just comes to life!! And this piece really is about the light, because it’s just window, the angles of the room, the trees through the window, and a chair, but the light is creating this endearing (so poignant) mood, which you do SOOOO well!!!!
You can take the simplest of objects and create an entire mood around them. I am forever blown away by that in you. It is your gift.
Thank you for sharing this and writing so honestly. You touched my heart. I believe deeply in you and your gifted-ness. And I am sending you a Huge hug. Robin
Hi Michelle ~ I’ve visited this post and the first one a few times without commenting. It is very evocative. Maybe you need to sit in the chair and watch the seasons pass..

Thank you all for your comments! I appreciate them… And yes, I think I need to sit and watch the seasons.
