As we begin to think about the Christmas shopping season, the creatures in the back yard are finishing their Autumn errands. I thought I might share some images I caught after leaving some peanuts on the railing.

Apparently, crows like peanuts. So, in order to attract a few for the purposes of getting a good reference photo, I originally bought some to see how well they worked. Well, it seems that if you snooze, you lose. Between the squirrel and the blue jay, the nuts were gone before the latecomer crow ever got off the roof rail. It was a real gamble to guess which one would get the last peanut!
I really want to know if you get a crow to come hither. We put out peanuts for the blue jays, a few at time, or else the squirrels get them all.
Great shots, you can see the blue jay trying to size up the ones he must leave behind.
Well, I have been able to get them onto the front lawn (it’s small) for peanuts, but, only if I am nowhere in sight will they come for them. The blue jay and the squirrel are not so shy, so the crows are getting beaten out! LOL! I might have better luck in the spring…
Nice shots. In our yard, the only things brave enough to challenge the squirrels are the crows, actually. If I were a small rodent, I’d probably be put off by a mini-flock of 11, large, black flutterers headed my way, too.
the rooks tore apart the suet balls we left out last year. in less then a minute one rook ate 3 suet balls o.0 wish i had of gotten it on film, was really neat to see (m also scary tho, seeing how much damage that beak can do)
Lovely pictures, espcially the blue jay. We get many different kinds of wildlife in our garden.
Recently we’ve had a young fox that keeps coming back.
