Lodge Door, 8×8, acrylic © 2011 Michelle Basic Hendry
The first painting from Sparrow Beach Lodge is a small one. It is the door hardware on the main entry to the front of the hotel. Only the handle itself remains untouched by layers of paint and shows the wear of decades of hands.
This remarkable place is in a time warp. It reminded me of the secret castles I used to imagine as child. Last October, I got to wander the wood lined halls for hours along with my friend, Bev McMullen. This is the first of three paintings to come from the old hotel. You can read about the visit on the blog or pick up the “Boat Show” edition of the Muskokan. Bev McMullen has written a bit about our visit in her new column.
This painting sold within hours of being released in the January 2011 edition of my newsletter on Thursday. Sign up to the newsletter if you want to see the latest paintings first!
