It’s time to upgrade the blog to HTML5 and with two years between major overhauls, I’m a little rusty! I’ll be altering the look and feel a bit too with a new theme but it shouldn’t be a shock. The differences will be slight. I hope. But it will mean that the blog might behave a bit strangely for the next few weeks!
That’s not the only housecleaning that is going on.
I have been allowing myself to explore. Much of this I have been doing in the background. Some I have begun sharing in the last several months, such as the self-portrait, the “Photography’s Traveling Journal” project and study with Bert Seabourn. Living in the U.S. has been interesting, fun and challenging. I am hoping to stay longer, but that is out of my hands. On the down side, I have been unable to participate in art exhibitions because of my immigration status. I am hopeful that it won’t be for too much longer. In the meantime, I am taking the opportunity to learn, not just about art, but about culture and new places, reconnect with Nature up in the mountains and down to the sea.
It hasn’t all been rosy, however.
Between adjusting to the move, losing family members while so far away and dealing with the consequences of too many changes at once, I let things get the best of me over the last two years. I have often forgotten to be grateful and I let the stress eat away at me. Then, I started having trouble sleeping and that was beginning to pull the pin on my sanity.
Change was required. Immediately.
So… I have started a little side project for finding a way to a better state of mind, enjoying new cultural ideas, art, poetry, food, books – all from the point of view of mindfulness and the philosophy of wabi sabi. For the winter, at least, I plan to share the context of my return to awareness, gratitude and the seat of creativity. I plan to explore the philosophy behind the art I have always made; art that glorifies the old, the worn, the things in the process of de-evoltion and transformation.
The project, “Wabi Sabi Winter” is coming soon. It will be where you can find some of the things I’m doing behind the scenes, what I’m learning and you might even discover with me the inspirations behind art that will appear right here (after the upgrade!). I’ll post a link when it’s ready!
So let’s get started.
