“Kyrie” is the lovely daughter of my lifelong friend, Kristi. Kyrie is her youngest and the same age in this portrait that her mother and I were when we met.
I never thought painting a young person would be harder than painting an older one. Of course, painting them larger than life with the face being 16″ long, was a whole other crazy challenge for this beginning portraitist. The lighting on her face was very cool and her bright blue eyes are crystal clear and engaging. I think this came out more illustrative art than classical, which when painting a teenager, might just be appropriate. Childhood has ended and that murky adventure between elementary school and adulthood is in full swing.
I love illustrative , it is expressive and happy and of today. I’m sure she will be honoured . With every shining face you you are gaining insight into your ability. xox
Thanks so much, Terry. Yes, insight indeed! Who knew? I seem to remember saying ‘never’ to portraits. Hmmmmmm
Love it! What a beautiful portrait of my girl! She is so flattered and loves your work. Kyrie has been trying portraits as well so this is a great opportunity for her to see how a true artist works!
She is a beautiful girl! Yay! Another artist in the ‘family’…
Very nice!
I have barely stuck my toe into the world of painting and already I have a much heightened appreciation for the skill.
Thanks, Kinsey!
Your portrait of Kyrie reveals her happy personality through her eyes and her expressive mouth. In addition, you approached her complex hair with varying shades of auburn hair. The real test is if the young lady herself is happy with it. You accomplished that! You are achieving further leaps and bounds every time a see one of your portraits!
Thanks so much! 🙂
It’s hard to see in the photo but in the painting you can see she has a neat hair colour. She is a natural light brown and has dyed the lower parts red. It looks really neat.
this look wonderful! 😀 the eyes look so full of life 🙂
Thanks!! 🙂
You did indeed capture that transitional time of adolescence. As usual, have trouble describing that, but that thoughtful expression is there, open roads ahead and wondering.
Thanks, Ingrid!
This is a stunning portrait. I can really see Kristi in Kyrie in this portrait. Now you will have do a portrait of Kristi. How awesome to have both mother and daughter painted by the same amazing artist.
Thanks! That could be a fun idea!
Yes, that’s the feel, illustrative art, and its very animated. What beautiful blue eyes. Seems like I can tell her personality from the portrait too.
Thanks, Arti!
