“Navajo Dreamer” was completed on the summer solstice. Accompanied by a full moon, this particular solstice was a rare event. So, I wrote it on the back of the painting – once in 70 years…
I created the portrait from a black and white photograph taken a century ago, but added the petroglyphs to the background (click image to enlarge). I enjoyed giving him rich skin tones and saturated colour.
I don’t know if he was a medicine man, but in my imagination, he is.
Lovely!
I really like what you did with the background.
Your imagination is all that counts.
Thanks, Kinsey!
Awesome Michelle!!! Look at you go girl!
Thanks, Anita… I’ve got another one on the easel!
Another lovely work!
Thanks, Al!
Another exceptional portrait. Love the background too. It establishes the mood.
Thanks! With each one, I learn something new. I keep pushing and they get harder, not easier!
I’ve been away for a while. Glad to catch up to your recent posts. Love those portraits you’ve done. Wonderful details. Beautiful colours in the Navajo Dreamer. Your studies in drawing the facial features are revealing. I’m always interested to see how an artist arrive at the final work. The process is the worthwhile journey. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Arti!
