I don’t seem to be built for these hot Oklahoma summers.
A few weeks ago, I attended a parade and ended up with heatstroke. I don’t remember much about getting home and the headache was excruciating. It took me a few days to feel like myself again. But I did see a wonderful display of regalia.
The parade was dominated by the next generation of dancers, each of them displaying so much colour. It is easy to imagine pale green grass and big skies of the plains flowing gently in their fringe. They inspired this painting.
This is a wondeful painting Michelle!!
Congratulations on now being able to sell your work again!!!
Thanks, Anita!
Lovely! His eyes are so expressive.
I can’t take the heat either. Not as warm here in Montana but we had a run in the nineties and I just had to hide in a dark hole. 🙂
Thanks, Kinsey!
heat and me dont mix at all, so I know roughly how you felt 🙁 hope it doesn’t happen again
love all the bright colours in this one 🙂 reminds me of seeing young first nations kids do dances at fair/events
Yeah, I thought I was getting enough fluid but I was sweating so much, I should have known! I hate the heat!
Thanks. I’m not usually so vivid with my palette, but this one called for it.
Beautiful painting Michelle. I love the heat and could live in a warm place in the winter.
Thanks, Sharon!
I can feel the heat in those colours–in a good way. A powerful portrait that pays respect to the intensity and potential of youth.
PS. I stay away from summer events because I can’t take the heat. Next time, try an ice pack in a backpack. I’ve used that for exercise on serious hot days. Keeps your core cool, but you still sweat, so it’s a confusing sensation, but I did not get that tired/dizzy/headache/nausea constellation of symptoms, so I think it worked.
Thanks, Ingrid. Sounds like a good idea. I should have carried more water too.
Hope you’re doing better now, Michelle. I can never imagine living in such hot climate, guess I’d rather be in the cold than intense heat. So above the 49th parallel for me. This is a beautiful painting. Yes, today is the last day of our ‘greatest show on earth’ The Calgary Stampede. The weather has not been cooperating, heavy rain and thunderstorms all week. With the poor economy and the bad weather attendance had fallen quite a bit. Your painting here reminds me of all the native children participating in the Stampede.
Thanks Arti.
That’s too bad about the weather. Some of my family attended and seemed to have enjoyed themselves, so hopefully it wasn’t a total loss!
