It seems I’m surrounded by symbols of transformation, in dreams and at my front door.
I found a dead female Promethea Silk Moth on my front doorstep last year. I kept it because it was beautiful. I knew at some point the time would come to paint it. This week, that time came.
The name struck me. It is derived from the Greek titan Prometheus, who defied the powerful god Zeus by stealing fire and bringing it to mortals.
The painting is beautiful! I love your focus on transformation. It’s easy to get despondent by the awfulness of recent events, but re-orienting one’s thoughts to the idea of change, which has always been with us, provides a sense of hope (which remained in Pandora’s box or, in other versions, ‘ fluttered from the box, touching the wounds created by the evil she had unleashed’). Like the moth, we get swept into the change without any sense of choice, like hitting an ocean current unawares. How we choose to cope with that lack of choice, however, is a choice. I shall try to remember that.
On the subject of Prometheus, I found this program stylistically beautiful and stark, and very informative. I believe the story of Pandora and her box is part of it: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/video/detail/B07PN7MNLW/ref=atv_dp_share_cu_r
Yes, so true! The only choice we truly have.
Pandora was given to Prometheus as a punishment, so it is very much applicable!! I’m so glad you like it.
