Joy. We all need more of it these days. If we pause long enough, the happy dance of Nature is ever present to provide it; the lilies, fireflies, butterflies and hummingbirds of Summer. The need for more joy in my life is expressing itself through my desire to paint water lilies in the ponds here. Traditionally symbols of calm, presence, and depth, waterlilies are a common subject for painters, inspired, perhaps, by the massive paintings of Claude Monet.
Time away from the studio in the last several weeks, spending time with great friends, new and old, virtually and on porches, has proven to inject more energy and joy than I thought possible. This last week, I’ve come back to painting, and I’ve been looking to see how much I can still do in spite of my personal challenges, and I surprised myself.
I’ve been struggling with the big changes in one eye, and in the use/distortion of my right (dominant) hand. Blur, and control… Coping with these conditions has been challenging to say the least, and have taken me down some creatively interesting paths in the last several months.
Being on the brink of treatment for both the eye and the hand in the coming weeks, I’m pensive. One has a more predictable outcome. The other does not. I’ve been limiting my exposure to things (and people) that do not bring me joy. I’ll call it mental and emotional hygiene. So much going on in the world is tragic and out of our control, so much pain. In spite of my issues, I have a lot to be grateful for.
I’m sorry to hear you are going through health challenges , sadly me as well. Also in my eyes , hoping for good out comes but not very sure . This entire time in history has been exceedingly challenging. Take care and here’s wishing the best of health…for both of us. ❤️
Challenging is the word! I’m sorry you’re struggling too. Yes – wishing the best for us both! We’ll have to catch up soon…
Warmly wishing you the best outcome for both of these issues. Find joy where you can.
