Places have personality and one of the exciting things about visiting ghost towns and abandoned rural sites is that, in the quiet, one can get a sense of them. The old general store, although NOT abandoned, is one that has a warm feeling, with its history not too far behind – and like the old beverage signs still clinging to the sides of the building, it is easily discerned by those who might pay attention.
I have recently interviewed the owners and photographed the interior. The full story in my book “Once Imagined”.
From the book:
The gold and purple weeds of a chaotic garden lean toward a stone foundation. Above it, a weary spine relaxes from 100 years of long labour. The afternoon sun pours into the second floor bedroom and the sudden brightness fools the eye into believing it to be young again.
