The painting that started the series… This house was built in 1900. It was not originally lived in by the family but used as a manse. The family moved in when their original farmhouse burned down. The house had no foundation, no running water and basic electricity. The electrical panel was mounted outside with old glass fuses. The water was heated to wash dishes in a reservoir on the stove until it was abandoned around 2000. This house inspired the entire “Echoes” series and is currently under restoration.
From the book:
Cobalt blues chasing twilight swallowed the last remaining warmth of sunset. Winter’s shroud wrapped seamlessly over the landscape broken only by a few trees and a greying house. The season’s silence as deep as the snow, white curtains concealing the deep teal of a now cold kitchen with measuring cups waiting to measure the weight and volume of time.
